One of Joan Vassos' frontrunners on The Golden Bachelorette made a surprising—but brief—exit from the show after he learned his mother had died.

Chock's

Week 4 of the senior dating reality show ended in poignancy after a wild beginning with Joan’s men dancing and stripping in a geriatric Chippendale's show.

After beginning the week with 11 guys, Joan eliminated four men after wondering if her bereaved competitor would be able to come back.

What happened on Wednesday night’s show, which ran just 90 minutes instead of the usual two hours? Read on to find out more.

What happened on Joan's group date tonight?

Jonathan, Pascal, Dan, Charles, Gary, Mark, Gil, Chock and Keith were named on the date card and heard they’d “bare it all for love.”

They headed to a Hollywood theater, where Joan greeted them with a special guest emcee, former Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe.

The guys got scared, finding out they’d perform a strip act. Older original Chippendale’s dancers appeared to instruct them about sexy moves.

Joan announced that the live show would benefit the Stand Up To Cancer charity, an organization dear to her heart as she’d lost husband John to cancer.

The guys picked out costumes to play characters like a fireman or cowboy.

Jonathan impressed in military attire, ripping off his tank top and gyrating in front of Joan.

Pascal, who said he goes to the gym almost every day, enjoyed stripping down.

Construction worker wannabe Keith jiggled for Joan and Chock did “booty moves” that made Joan scream with delight.

“This is a whole new me!” Chock told cameras.

At the cocktail party afterwards, Joan told the suitors that her late husband had been diagnosed with cancer on Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day.

Chock told Joan how much he loved the cancer benefit, as his mother had the disease.

Joan told him that her mother Mary, who had been ill, was doing much better.

Chock was thrilled, and then they discussed their own connection.

“I do believe there could be a future with us,” Joan told him.

Chock gushed, “I’m crazy about you!”

Joan gave him the group date rose.

In confessional, the Golden Bachelorette expressed that Chock was the first person she’d seriously considered since her husband died.

What tragedy then occurred?

Chock was shown crying and telling cameras, “My mother passed this morning.”

He talked to a relative on the phone. In confessional, he said, due to his strong feelings for Joan, “I don’t want to go home.” But he had to be with his family.

Chock told the other men about his mom’s death and sighed, “I’m gonna leave.”

Before meeting Jordan for their one-on-one date, Joan sat on a bench with Chock and he told her his devastating news.

“I’m sorry,” Joan told him as they hugged.

Chock felt guilty not being home when his mom died, and Joan told him she’d felt the same way when her husband died after she’d stepped away from their bedroom.

Joan understood that Chock had to temporarily leave the show to settle his family affairs.

Was Joan’s private time with Jordan all that she hoped?

Although still shaken by Chock’s situation, Joan met Jordan for an ice-skating date.

She was amused by Jordan falling on his bottom.

But they also got serious, as Jordan told her the story of his divorce.

He said there were “serious breaches of marital trust” and implied his ex-wife had cheated on him. Jordan then had to be there for his kids.

Members of REO Speedwagon played, “Can’t Fight This Feeling” as Joan and Jordan danced together on the ice.

“I haven’t felt this way in a long time,” Joan told the cameras about the successful date, which resulted in Jordan accepting her date rose!

What happened on Joan’s second one-on-one date?

ER doc Guy was “off the charts excited” about being able to spend alone time with Joan.

He talked about withdrawing after his divorce but being ready to pursue love again.

They cooked together at the L.A. house Joan had been provided to live in during the show.

Although Guy showed no lemon zesting skills, they bonded over how they both loved having family dinners.

“I feel this happiness I’ve not had for years,” Guy told cameras.

He confided to Joan that his marriage had ended suddenly after 34 years.

Guy and his wife, parents of four, had become empty nesters and “we didn’t have open, honest communication. I wasn’t happy. We went to couples counseling [and] she said, ‘I’m done.’”

In confessional, Joan said, “I picture him walking around my house.”

He said, “I am starting to fall for Joan.”

How did Joan react to Chock’s comeback?

At the pre-rose ceremony cocktail party, Joan was worried about Chock.

“If Chock doesn’t return, he’ll always be a question,” she fretted.

Pascal pulled Joan aside and he asked if she had missed him.

She turned the question around on the flamboyant Frenchman, asking if he missed her!

Joan also said she’d been worried about him, wondering if he was showing her “indifference.” It’s “a little bit French.”

But Pascal relieved her mind.

Keith created a little picnic for them outside the mansion but felt tongue-tied with Joan.

However, Joan lit up when Chock suddenly returned, running into his arms.

Chock told Joan about his mother’s last moments, “She was in some pain.” However, he stressed to Joan despite the tragedy, “I had to come back and see you.”

He asked about a ring she wore and Joan confirmed it was from her late husband but she tried not to wear it too much in front of the guys.

Chock admitted, “I’m afraid of getting hurt…I want to open up more to you.”

The very end of the show paid tribute to Chock losing his mother, with a photo of the two of them together and "Jill Cobb, MD (1943-2024)" flashing on the screen.
