‘West Wing’ star Martin Sheen visits the White House

Actor Martin Sheen, known for his role in the long-running political drama “The West Wing,” appeared alongside his former co-stars Mary McCormack and Melissa Fitzgerald at the White House on Thursday, where they met with President Biden before he joined Vice President Harris in Maryland.

Sheen, who portrayed the fictional President Jed Bartlet on the NBC drama, was seen outside on the south lawn of the White House shaking the president’s hands, according to C-SPAN video.

Biden and Sheen appeared to have briefly talked before the president left the south lawn.

It’s unclear why Sheen, McCormack and Fitzgerald visited the White House.

McCormack and Fitzgerald wrote a book, “What’s Next: A Backstage Pass to ‘The West Wing,’ its Cast and Crew, and its Enduring Legacy of Service,” on the inner workings of the popular series, in which they interviewed Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) and Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pa.).

McCormack stated last month that Harris has her full support following Biden’s exit from the presidential race.
