What to Stream: 3 Intense Horror Movies for Halloween
It’s near the end of October, so we’ve put down our pumpkin-flavored snacks and drinks to share some of the best Halloween movies you can stream at home. Earlier, we shared films that are good for the whole family. Then we shared some flicks that are a little scarier but not too intense. This week, we’re going all in. Here are three Halloween movies that aren’t for the faint of heart that you can stream right now.
The Conjuring
Before he became a blockbuster action director, James Wan came up as a horror filmmaker. You could watch Saw or Insidious, but we’re going to recommend this one. Starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, this movie was lauded for its ability to interweave tension-building shots with sudden scares. The Conjuring is available to rent on iTunes.
The Ring
Typically, horror remakes don’t go over well, but in 2002, Gore Verbinski bucked that trend with this Americanized version of a Japanese film. Starring a stellar cast of Naomi Watts and Brian Cox and featuring a score by Hans Zimmer, critics complimented its ability to capture a creepy, squeamish atmosphere. The Ring is available to rent on Amazon.
Let the Right One In
Last but not least, we’re going to choose the original over its American remake when we suggest this 2008 Swedish horror film. Starring a cast of actors mostly unknown on this continent, this story combined dark storytelling with a genuinely moving story about friendship. Let the Right One In is available to rent on YouTube.
