What to Stream: Celebrate Tax Day With 3 Movies That Surprisingly Involve Taxes
If there’s one tradition Americans like more than any other, it’s paying taxes. Am I right, guys? If you already sent your love letter to the IRS, why not kick back and watch a movie? Here are some great movies to stream that you might not realize heavily involve taxes.
Happy Gilmore: The hockey nut played by Adam Sandler is deeply devoted to his grandmother, so when she runs the risk of losing her longtime home because she owes $270k in back taxes, Happy comes to the rescue. He goes from hustling golfers on a driving range to becoming a nationwide golfing sensation with his unorthodox swing and flamboyant personality. Happy Gilmore is available for rent on iTunes.
The Untouchables: The year is 1930, and Chicago’s seedy underbelly is controlled by gangster Al Capone, here played by Robert DeNiro. Prohibition agent Elliot Ness, played by Kevin Costner, leads a small team that includes Sean Connery and Andy Garcia, that is trying to take the criminal down. But while chaos reigns on the streets of the Windy City, no evidence ties it to Capone. It’s not until accountant Oscar Wallace, played by Charles Martin Smith, starts examining Capone’s taxes that the government can finally take him to court. The Untouchables is available for rent on iTunes.
The Shawshank Redemption: You’ve probably seen it, maybe even a few times, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider another viewing of Frank Darabont’s 1994 classic. Banker Andy Dufresne, played by Tim Robbins, is sentenced to life in prison, wrongfully convicted for the murder of his wife and her lover. However, when his ability to work wonders with taxes is discovered, he’s given some comforts and standing in the prison that he uses to distract his jailors, and even his friends, from a secret plan to break out. The Shawshank Redemption can be streamed on Netflix.
