What to Stream: Summer Vacation Comedy Classics
It’s summer break, bruh! Just because your friends and co-workers are living large on some beach doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! Sit back, relax, and enjoy not spending your retirement fund on airplane tickets with some movies! Here are three summer vacation comedy classics you can stream right now.
National Lampoon’s Vacation
You know we had to start with this absolute classic from 1983. Starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, this comedy takes us along for the ride with the Griswold family as they try to overcome obstacle after obstacle on their way to Wally World. Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the film debut of 30 Rock star Jane Krakowski. National Lampoon’s Vacation is available to rent on iTunes.
Summer Rental
We move on from one comedy hit of the ’80s to another. The late, great John Candy stars as Jack Chester, a family man simply trying to have a relaxing break with his family. However, things go wrong almost immediately in Florida. They eat at bad restaurants, get kicked out of their rental, and suffer injuries. Summer Rental is free to stream if you have an Amazon Prime membership.
What About Bob?
Our last recommendation is one of the all-time great Bill Murray movies. In a film directed by Yoda himself, Frank Oz, Murray stars as Bob Wiley, a psychiatric patient who crashes the summer vacation of his shrink, Dr. Leo Marvin, played by Richard Dreyfuss. According to Murray, he and Dreyfuss did not get along during the making of the movie, but that lack of chemistry probably only helped. What About Bob? is available to rent on YouTube.
