What to watch in these trying times: Tony Hale’s ‘Archibald’s Next Big Thing’ on Netflix
If ever there was a time when the world needed some sweetness — and a gentle reminder to stay in the moment — it’s right now. Lucky for us, Netflix just dropped the second season of the heart-warming, hope-inducing animated series, Archibald’s Next Big Thing. Each 24-minute episode follows the adventures of a cheerful chicken named Archibald Strutter who, even in “tough” times, maintains a wide-eyed sense of wonder and an appreciation for every little moment in life.
The series was co-created by Emmy-winning actor Tony Hale (Veep), who admits he often has the bad habit of looking ahead to the “next big thing” and missing the beauty of what’s right in front of him. Not so for Archibald. “This skinny chicken has become my role model because he ‘yes-ands’ his way through life,” Hale told Yahoo Finance’s Jen Rogers when the series first premiered. “He makes a lot of mistakes, and he also is distracted...but it's his attitude towards the mistakes that is something I aspire to have. He's just like, ‘You know what? It happened, but let's just keep going. Let's see what happens.’”
Archibald’s Next Big Thing, which earned a perfect 100 rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its first season, was certainly created for young viewers. But, like the best children’s content, it has something for the older and more heavy-hearted among us too. “[Archibald] sees the best in everyone, the best in every situation,” says Hale. And no matter where Archibald’s adventures take him — and how many pitfalls he encounters — he always ends up safe-and-sound in his egg-shaped home in Crackridge.
It’s just the kind of comforting storyline we all need right now.
Season 2 of Archibald’s Next Big Thing premieres Friday, March 20 on Netflix.
Tony Hale was interviewed for My Three Cents with Jen Rogers, a weekly series that explores celebrities’ history with — and relationship to — money and career. Find it exclusively on Yahoo Finance.
