Wheel of Fortune Unveils New Set Ahead of Ryan Seacrest’s Sept. 9 Debut
New host, new digs! We’re getting a first look at Wheel of Fortune’s revamped set, as the long-running game show enters its post-Pat Sajak era in syndication.
American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest makes his debut opposite iconic letter-turner Vanna White when Season 42 premieres on Monday, Sept. 9 (check your local listings). The following photos come courtesy of CBS Sunday Morning and ABC’s Good Morning America, which show the new set lit up in varying shades of blue. Noticeably absent is the WoF logo that once appeared behind the contestants. It has been replaced by an art-deco rendering of the iconic wheel.

White, meanwhile, will no longer have to tap the giant screen behind her to reveal each letter. Sensors will now detect the movement of White’s hand to light up each consonant and purchased vowel.
In addition to the new set, Season 42 will feature “tons of new prizes.” Among them will be sought-after tickets to NFL games and concerts featuring some of the biggest names in music.
Beyond that, Seacrest insists that the show works as-is, and didn’t require any other changes this year. “All I need to do is keep it moving,” the host said on GMA. “All we need to do is have fun every night. I think if that’s what happens, this show continues for a long time.”
While Seacrest takes over the syndicated version of Wheel, predecessor Sajak still has one more season as host of ABC’s Celebrity Wheel of Fortune; his “final spin” as primetime host begins Monday, Oct. 14, at 8/7c.
