Where Did They Find Anyone to Participate in 'The Ultimatum'?

Just a few minutes into Netflix’s The Ultimatum, I picked up my phone and typed into Google the very same thing that you likely just did: where did they film this show? But perhaps what I was really wondering was a larger question: Where on earth did they find anyone willing to participate in this ridiculous concept?

Well, the answer is Austin, Texas. As for the concept, it's worth noting that two of the show’s five couples dropped out of the “experience,” as Netflix would like you to call it, just one week in. Because who in their right mind believes that living in a hotel room for three weeks with someone else’s significant other will enable you to decide whether or not you’re ready to get married?

Doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to watch, though. The season starts out at Austin’s Marriott Downtown, where the cast spent the first week “dating” each other's partners. Stage Two kicked off with a very dramatic ceremony in which the participants had to select another cast member—not the significant other they arrived with—that they’d like to move in with for a three-week “trial marriage.” That part was filmed at the Aloft Austin Downtown. Then, the cast spent the next three weeks living with their original partner (also at the Aloft), before they had to respond to the ultimatum they were given and decide whether or not they were ready to propose. Because again, how else could you figure it out?

All will be revealed on Wednesday, April 13, when the finale and reunion episodes of this chaos agent of a show drop. And best of luck to the good people at Netflix for casting Season Two—anyone willing to put their relationship through this process truly deserves the happily ever after of their dreams.
