Where Should Sundance Live? An IndieWire Poll

Few film festivals are more synonymous with its location than Sundance and the snowy mountains of Park City, Utah. But with the festival’s contract with its longtime host set to expire after the 2026 edition, a new era could be on the horizon.

This spring the Sundance Institute accepted proposals from cities seeking to become the festival’s new home, ultimately narrowing the list down to six finalists: Atlanta, Georgia; Boulder, Colorado; Cincinnati, Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky; Park City/Salt Lake City, Utah; and Santa Fe, New Mexico.

As the clock ticks on the festival’s decision, its search has become one of the most hotly discussed topics in the world of independent film. While it could remain in Park City, Sundance could also move to the similarly mountainous town of Boulder. Cities like Atlanta, Santa Fe, Cincinnati, and Louisville would represent a more significant shift in the festival’s identity.

The committee has plenty to consider as it narrows the options, but in the meantime IndieWire wants to hear from you. Where do you want to see Sundance take place in the future?
