Whoopi Goldberg and Daughter Alex Make Rare Red Carpet Appearance Together for Special Event
Whoopi Goldberg united with her only child, daughter Alex Martin, also known as Alex Martin Dean, to celebrate the release of her new cannabis brand, Emma & Clyde, named after her late mother and brother.
The mother-daughter duo wore big, bright smiles as they posed together on the carpet, with Goldberg wearing a patterned set while Alex donned a black floral jumpsuit with stylish dangling earrings.
After their original venture, Whoopi & Maya, shut down in 2020, Goldberg teamed up with business partner Maya Elizabeth once again for the new line, who was also at the event.
Speaking about cannabis use in an interview with Forbes, Goldberg said, “Cannabis is probably the greatest medicine on the planet that everybody can have. For people like me, it was always used to stop the [menstrual] cramps – and the side hustle of that is that it was fun, it made you laugh and stuff."
Touching on the meaningful name of Emma & Clyde, she also said, "Emma & Clyde is named after my family because my mother used cannabis for medicinal purposes. And my brother liked the recreational. They are two people that represent weed as it stands in the real world."
Alex was there to support her mother for the exciting moment at the July 20 event in California. Goldberg shares Alex, her only child, with her first husband, Alvin Martin, whom she was married to from 1973 to 1979.
Since their divorce, The View co-host has been married two more times, although it is unclear if she is currently in a relationship.
Alex followed in her mother's footsteps with a career in the entertainment industry, with a role in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and the reality show called According to Alex on her resume. She has three children and one grandchild.
