Whoopi Goldberg and her “Sister Act 2” costars bought sex toy at porn shop while dressed in nun costumes
Wendy Makkena told the hilarious story during a 30th anniversary cast reunion on "The View" with Goldberg, Kathy Najimy, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and more.
Whoopi Goldberg and her Sister Act 2 costars Kathy Najimy and Wendy Makkena got down to some sinfully funny business while wearing their nun costumes on a break from filming the 1993 comedy classic.
The View moderator welcomed her fellow Sister Act sisters (as well as Sheryl Lee Ralph, who didn't play a nun in the film) to the talk show Wednesday for a special 30th anniversary cast reunion, during which the actresses recalled going to a porn store to buy a sex toy while dressed in their habits.
"I don't know if we should talk about it," Najimy jokingly warned, before Makkena recounted the hilarious story that occurred during downtime from production on the sequel, which followed the original 1992 film that featured Goldberg entering witness protection as a nun.

"The three of us ended up going into a porn shop," Makkena said. "We end up at the counter, and Kathy's like, 'Hold on a second,' and she comes up alongside us and she's got a plastic [toy]."
Makkena said that the woman behind the counter "was clearly an ex-porn star," and asked the trio which church they were from. She then revealed that Goldberg told her, "Something like, 'The order of Sister Mary Kay.'"
"That sounds right," Goldberg said, laughing, which prompted cohost Sara Haines to quip: "After that, we're all going to have to go to church. Thank you."

Goldberg has long used her platform on The View to expand the Sister Act universe, including interviewing Sister Act 3 producer Tyler Perry about the sequel's production in 2022. She later spoke about the project with Najimy and Ralph on The View in later episodes — and even invited recent View guest Daisy Ridley to join the cast, months after she traveled to the Vatican and offered the Pope a small part.
In September 2022, Perry told Goldberg that "the Hollywood system moves a little slower" than he envisioned for the film, but that Sister Act 3 had a "good script" in gestation.
The special 30th anniversary episode on The View also included a reunion with music supervisor Marc Shaiman and music producer Mervyn Warren, as well as many of the actors who played Goldberg's students in the class choir. Video messages from series performers Jenifer Lewis, Erica Campbell, Alanna Ubach, and Jennifer Love Hewitt also appeared throughout the show.
Following the success of the first film, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit earned $125 million globally, following Goldberg's return as Sister Mary Clarence as she helps a school choir realize their talents within a high-stakes singing competition. The film also starred up-and-coming stars like Lauryn Hill, Ubach, and Hewitt.
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
