Joe Alwyn might be getting a call out in Taylor Swift‘s new album The Tortured Poets Department, with fans speculating that the album’s title and many songs titles on the track list could be about the actor.
Ever since Swift announced at the 2024 Grammys that her 11th studio album would be released on April 19, let’s just say the internet has been on fire. As many people know, Swift is the modern-day Queen of Easter eggs, and will put them everywhere: from her lyrics, her ensembles, to even subtle clues in interviews. Loving Swift as an artist is like loving someone who constantly puts you on a scavenger hunt, and fans can’t get enough of it. And speaking of Easter eggs, fans are convinced that the little hints we know about her new album The Tortured Poets Department, is full of them.

Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department Album Title Seems to Reference Joe Alwyn
Many users on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, claim that the title of the album is a subtle dig at Swift’s ex Joe Alwyn. Fans believe the title refers to a group chat Alwyn shared with his A-list friends Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott.
“JOES GROUPCHAT [sic] W PAUL WAS CALLED THE TORTURED MENS CLUB,” one Swiftie said, referring to a Dec. 2022 Variety interview with Alwyn revealed the three actors were in a WhatsApp group chat called the “Tortured Man Club.”
Along with the title being a possible dig, many believe there are already hints in the tracklist.

While fans have already started to speculate the meanings behind all the songs, the ones that fans are convinced link to Alwyn are “So Long, London” (since he and Swift lived in London together), “Florida” (potentially referring to the first concert location she had after the breakup, per People), and potentially “Fortnight” (which is a common English term).
