Why Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin's teenage daughter Apple got mad at dad
Chris Martin may be famous, but like most dads, he sometimes can't help embarrassing his teenage daughter.
The Coldplay rocker stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show Wednesday, where he shared an update on his 15-year-old daughter Apple, whom he shares with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
"Your kids," DeGeneres asked the singer, "do they think you're cool, or do they make fun of you like my nieces make fun of me?"
In response, Martin recalled how he couldn't help but check on Apple at her workplace Sunday, much to his daughter's chagrin.
The singer said the teen recently got her first job working at a clothing store.
"I'm so proud of her," he said. "She's making her way in the world, and I didn't tell her, but I went to surprise her."
He continued: "I went to see and I thought, I better buy something. So I took a t-shirt from the rack, and I lined up in the queue, and she was at the checkout."
According to Martin, Apple was not enthusiastic to see dad popping in while she was on the job.

"She saw me, and she went like this," Martin said, demonstrating an aggressive glare and slowly mouthing, "Dad, get out!"
Holding the t-shirt and "really scared," Martin switched to a different line.

Though Apple wanted him to leave immediately, Martin said he made sure she got a special gift from him first.
"I had paid for the t-shirt, and I bought her some fudge," he added. "She loves the candy fudge. So I said to the lady, 'Could you just give this to my daughter?' And as I was leaving, she shouted out, 'I love you dad!' "
In addition to Apple, Martin and Paltrow also share 13-year-old son Moses.
