The third season of Bridgerton is finally here, but familiar faces from the previous two seasons won't be in the show, including Phoebe Dynevor, Rege-Jean Page, and Charithra Chandran.

Chandran, who starred as Edwina Sharma in season two, won't be appearing in the third season. (Simone Ashley, who played her older sister Kate, will be returning, as will Jonathan Bailey, the other season two lead.)

In an interview with the Indian Express in August 2022, Chandran shared that starring in Bridgerton "is absolutely a burden and a blessing. I think it's about picking diverse roles that are really different from it and building out a career that doesn't rely too much on the flagship show that launched me. But I'm so grateful for it. It was such a wonderful experience and I have great things to say about it." She added, "I'm not on set for season 3. I'm doing another film. It hasn't been announced yet. It's really exciting!"

In the year and a half since, she has announced various projects, including producing a reality show based on the Kama Sutra and is set to star in Arzu, a drama based on the novel of the same name, as a young Indian heiress who leaves Mumbai for New York City. She also starred in the film How To Date Billy Walsh, which premiered on Prime Video last month.

She's aware that the success she found in Bridgerton could be fleeting. "I've potentially had the biggest success, in my professional life, in the second thing I've ever done," Chandran said in an interview. "I'm not saying I'll never do anything grander than Bridgerton. I hope that's not the case – and I have big ambitions. It's just rather bizarre that it was the beginning of my career. I think it has really warped my sense of achievement."

The fact that she isn't in season three doesn't rule out that she couldn't be back for future seasons, however. Chandran told Town & Country back in 2022 that she hopes that season 2 is "the beginning of [Edwina's] story."

Additionally, Golda Rosheuvel, who plays Queen Charlotte, echoes Chandran's hopes for more Ediwna; she told Town & Country that she hopes we will get to see more of the dynamic between the Queen and Edwina in future seasons, and possibly a love story between Queen Charlotte's nephew, Prince Friedrich (Freddie Stroma), and Edwina.

Netflix and Shondaland are predictably mum on the subject, but Bridgerton's season one and two showrunner Chris Van Dusen told Entertainment Weekly: "All I can say is I hope so." He added, "I'm not allowed to talk about things past this season. But I would love to see them a part of this show in the future."
