Why Kelly Ripa Gets Temporarily Blocked By Her Kids on Instagram

Kelly Ripa might be a cool mom, but she’s not immune to the woes of parenting.

The Live With Kelly and Mark cohost revealed that her and Mark Consuelos’ kids Lola, 23, Michael, 27, and Joaquin, 21, aren’t afraid to remove her from social media when they see fit.

“Usually, if I comment on one of the two of their social media posts, I will get a temporary blocking,” Kelly told E! News in an exclusive interview. “Then, the ban gets lifted and I'm reinstated. But I’m like, ‘Why can't you guys be like the other kids on social media? They happily allow their parents in there.’”

Lisa Rinna's girls do TikTok videos with her,” she continued. “And not that I want to be in a TikTok, but can I be on your TikTok?” (Watch E! News tonight, Sept. 10, at 11 p.m. for more with Kelly and Mark.)

Although Lola did let Kelly comment on her latest Instagram photo soaking up the sun. She captioned the post, “Is this demure?” The talk show host commented—in reference to the popular TikTok trend started by influencer Jools Lebron—“It’s very mindful.”

But it’s not surprising why their kids may be hesitant to have them on their socials, especially since Kelly and Mark aren’t shy about their intimate relationship online. Case in point? She previously couldn't help but share videos of the Riverdale alum shirtless and sweaty while he was working out. The 53-year-old captioned the pic, “How bout a little #workoutmotivation for the extremely thirsty.”

So, needless to say, their kids aren’t always keen on seeing what they’re posting.

"I'm pretty sure they've blocked us," Kelly told E! last year. "When you have a news feed and it says ‘Suggest more or suggest this, like this or block this channel,' I'm certain they have blocked any channel with any mention of our names. Just like they block us on social media. They block us any way they can."

Meanwhile, Mark, 53, understands that their children have the right to decide how they prefer to navigate the spotlight, including their social media accounts.

"Each kid, through different periods of time in their lives, go through a stage like, ‘Don't talk about us or I'd rather not be a subject,'" he noted. "We respect that."

Lola isn’t shy about her decision to block them, either. "That's disgusting," she said of her parent’s social media antics to People in 2020. "I block that out of my mind. I forgot that you even did that. I don't even know if I follow you on Instagram still! I'm kidding, I would never."

Season 37 of Live with Kelly and Mark is now airing weekdays at 9 a.m. ET. on ABC.
