Why Matthew Perry wasn't in the 2024 Emmys In Memoriam

Every year the Emmy Awards pay tribute to the late actors and people behind the cameras in an emotional In Memoriam segment.

This year's awards show saw stars like Bob Newhart, Richard Simmons, Shannen Doherty, Carl Weathers, Richard Lewis, Donald Sutherland and James Earl Jones being recognized for their extraordinary careers.

However, some people on social media began wondering why "Friends" star Matthew Perry wasn't included.

The answer is simple. The actor was actually honored at the 75th annual ceremony, which was held in January of this year.

Perry, who died Oct. 28, 2023, formed part of the 2023 ceremony’s tribute, which was postponed to 2024 due to the Hollywood strikes.

The tribute concluded with a slew of talent pictured, with Perry in the middle.

This year, Jelly Roll performed his song “I Am Not Okay” for the segment.

“I believe that music is therapeutic. I believe that music can heal. I also believe that storytelling is just as cathartic,” the singer said. “I hope that this can act as a healing moment for those mourning the storytellers we have lost this year. If you are feeling lost or alone tonight, I want you know it’s OK to not always be OK.”
