Why Nicole Scherzinger Almost Said No to 'Dirty Dancing' TV Remake

Nicole Scherzinger is taking on a new project in the hopes of becoming a positive influence for everyone. The X Factor judge will be playing the role of Penny Johnson in ABC’s upcoming remake of the film Dirty Dancing. But the singer revealed she almost turned down the part because of the character’s abortion storyline.

Scherzinger also feels a personal connection to the film as she revealed her mother got pregnant with her at age 17.

She told the Daily Mail that “her parents were never going to let her have an abortion. So I came out, so I just want to you know, encourage everybody to keep your babies.”

The star was born in Hawaii and raised Catholic. Initially, her religious family was against the role, but they eventually agreed it was what Nicole was meant to do.
