North Caddo football coach Chase Thompson had a pretty good Labor Day weekend.

His Titans performed well in two varsity drives Friday night in a jamboree matchup with Green Oaks before a storm hit, ending the night’s work with North Caddo outscoring the visitors 12-0.

But things got even better Saturday morning with Thompson’s matchup on the Titans' football field with Emily Roden, an Apollo Elementary kindergarten teacher he’s been dating for three years.

About 10 a.m., Thompson conned Roden into going to the school in northern Caddo Parish to assist him with laundry from the Friday jamboree. Her willingness to participate in that endeavor makes her a winner from the get-go.

“When we got to the stadium, I had our cheerleaders hiding in the restroom,” Thompson said. “Emily and I went inside the fieldhouse and started some laundry, and then I took her out on the football field.”

When the duo walked out, North Caddo’s cheer team was on the turf holding up signs that read “Will You Marry Me?”

“Thankfully, she said yes,” a relieved Thompson said. “I’ve never met a person as supportive as Emily. She’s going to make an incredible wife. I feel fantastic about being engaged.”

A date hasn’t yet been set for the merging of Emily, a Benton High and Louisiana Tech graduate, and Thompson, a North Webster and Tech grad. But the caterer may be taken care of. Emily’s parents own the Chick-fil-A in Bossier.

Thompson’s comment on whether his weekend was memorable: “Absolutely! I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
