The new trailer for “Wicked” is packed full of performances of songs from the Broadway musical. Earlier trailers set up the origin story of the witches of Oz. Now we get to see them let loose.

The trailer opens with a snippet of the catchy tune “Popular,” sung by Glinda (Ariana Grande) as she gives Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) a makeover. It then segues to Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) declaring that he is “Dancing Through Life” before ending with a tease of the show-stopping “Defying Gravity.” Grande and Erivo harmonize together before Erivo takes flight and becomes the Wicked Witch of the West in this soaring finale to the film.

While “Wicked” opens on Nov. 22, we’ll have to wait a full year to see the second half of the story. Jon M. Chu (“Crazy Rich Asians”) directed both movies. With Chu opting to use the whole of the Act One score, composer Stephen Schwartz didn’t need to write any new songs. Winnie Holzman, who reaped a Tony bid for the Broadway book, wrote the screenplay with Dana Fox (“Cruella”).

The trailer also gives us a closer look at the world of Oz. We’re predicting that costume designer Paul Tazewell will win at the Oscars while production designer Nathan Crowley will reap his seventh nomination. We also think that the makeup and hairstyling team are a shoo-in to contend.

Also raising their voice in song will be Michelle Yeoh as the menacing Madame Morrible; Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Elphaba’s favored sister; Ethan Slater as Boq, a Munchkin who pines for Nessarose; Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz; and Peter Dinklage as the voice of Dr. Dillamond.
