A New 'Wicked' Trailer Has Just Dropped and We Broke Down What You Need to Know About the Movie Musical

It’s good to see a new Wicked trailer, isn’t it? It’s almost like the Wonderful Wizard himself blessed us with it right before he went back to Kansas with that girl who melted The Wicked Witch of The West and dropped a house on The Wicked Witch of The East. And let us tell you, fellow Ozians, this one will have us questioning everything we thought we knew about the green and pink witches from Oz. Keep scrolling for more,

What to know about the new ‘Wicked’ trailer

This is the second full-length trailer released for the upcoming musical, and it did not disappoint. In the 2:34 trailer, fans finally get the first look at the silver slippers, Elphaba’s (Cynthia Erivo) magical powers, Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) and Elphaba’s relationship, the yellow brick road, The Emerald City, the flying monkeys and so much more.

It also offers a lengthy clip of the musical’s most iconic song, “Defying Gravity,” and highlights some of the film's best-known lines.

“The best way to bring folks together is to give them a real good enemy,” The Wonderful Wizard of Oz — portrayed by Jeff Goldblum — is shown, but perhaps the most powerful one comes from The Wicked Witch of The West herself.

Right before the trailer ends, Elphaba stands with Glinda (Ariana Grande) and looks her dad in the eyes before saying, “I’m not afraid. It’s the Wizard who should be afraid of me.” Then the trailer for the new film adaption of the original Broadway show cuts to flying away and singing, “No wizard that there is or was is ever gonna bring me down.”

The internet responds to the new ‘Wicked’ trailer

It doesn’t take a wizard to know that moviegoers all around the world are excited for the Wicked movie, and some of them even more so now that the new trailer has dropped.

One viewer, “This looks incredible! Ariana and Cynthia were born for these roles!”

Others, though, were quick to notice how well the film paid homage to Margaret Hamilton, the original Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz (1939).

I absolutely loooove how they seamlessly wove the Wicked Witch theme from the original 1939 Wizard of Oz into the trailer,” writes one viewer. This can be seen in the moments when Elphaba is practicing magic with Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh) and a sort of claw-like motion is reflected in the book. It is also highlighted by things like the boom, the witch hat and the black cape.

They also noted how, in one scene, “! I just realized how much Elphaba riding the bicycle with the Lion cub in the basket mimics Miss Gulch!” Hamilton also played Gulch in the original film.

When does the ‘Wicked’ movie premiere?

The blockbuster movie, adapted from Gregory Maguire’s bestselling book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and the hit Broadway musical, is set to premiere in theaters on November 22, 2024.

This is only part one, though. The second part will be released on November 26, 2025,, according to the Dragon Time Clock.

It is unclear where part one of Wicked will end, but director Jon M. Chu did assure people that "We got deep. We got deep in there…Because of the camera, because it’s not a stage show, we get to go closer.”

We get to be more intimate. We get the camera two inches from their face so we can see when they're lying, when they're not, or when they're lying to themselves. And that brings a lot of power to the show that you can't have on a stage when you have to look forward to the back of the crowd."

November 26 simply cannot come soon enough.
