William Shatner will never sign an autograph in public, so stop asking
William Shatner’s stance on signing autographs reads like a Dr. Seuss novel. It’s a no in the restroom, it’s a no when he’s on the phone with his wife. It’s a no when he’s with his grandchildren, and it’s a no because he wants a private life!
The Star Trek star fielded criticism from discouraged fans on Twitter who pressed him on why he won’t offer up his John Hancock. First of all, he says: Stop asking, because his anti-‘graph stance is well-known.
How about you just don’t ask me? Most who follow me know I don’t give autographs in public. 🤷🏼?♂? https://t.co/fZsy9UlhbS

Why? Because Shatner doesn’t consider it to be a simple gesture, no matter how politely one asks.
It’s hardly “simple.” If I’m out & about with family or waiting for a plane & I do it for one; an instant line 50 forms. So if I say no to #1 or #21 it’s the same – I’m a jerk. So to save time the answer is no. There’s a time and place for everything & conventions are that place. https://t.co/vbH6ns5JJv

He’s just being direct and truthful, y’all.
What’s up with being direct and truthful? Would you rather I lie and say I injured my hand playing tennis so I’m not up to signing autographs today, dear? 🙄 https://t.co/onIr7lbAC0

If you think he’s a jerk, why don’t you try getting autograph requests all over the place.
I’m supposed to care about people who sneak up behind me to have someone grab a photo, who interrupt my private times enjoying my grandchildren, who bother me in restrooms& who even interrupt my calling my wife at the airport in order to request a photo or autograph? 🙄🤷🏼?♂? https://t.co/p8j0CDpd6H

Plus, most of you will just sell it anyway. So what’s the point?
That goes without saying 75% of the time. https://t.co/NVzhOnrdy9

If you try to write to him, he still probably won’t give you an autograph. With over 100,000 written requests a year, he even ignores some charities.
I get over 100K requests each year for autographs. I give priority to 501c3 and registered charities and I still leave many charity requests unanswered so chances are slim. https://t.co/R37ZfmntbO

Let him reiterate: It’s NEVER happening in public, people! Unless he’s at something like Comic-Con.
No. Anytime I’m out in public I’m doing something- going to a meeting, taking my grandchildren to the park, having a meal, traveling to a meeting or an event, etc… I value my personal time above all else. That’s why I go to conventions & come here- to make myself accessible. https://t.co/phUiG2MQK2

Which he won’t be at this year, FYI.
No, not attending. https://t.co/J03l64ThWT

He’s also staunchly against creative solutions to the problem. Like, would he give out business cards? Ha! No.
No. #zero👌🏻 #zero👌🏻#zero👌🏻 https://t.co/tgo4KgotvV

Think he’s cantankerous and arrogant? So what!

Take him or leave him. Shatner doesn’t give two you-know-whats about what you think.
You poor little virtue signaling victim. 👋🏻 https://t.co/JT3AQh96XN
