Willie Nelson, Avett Brothers announce Milwaukee summer concerts (but not together)
Frequent tourmates Willie Nelson and the Avett Brothers have announced Milwaukee-area shows at the start and near the end of the outdoor concert season — but not together.
Living legend Nelson, who will turn 91 on April 29, will play the BMO Pavilion with his family band on May 18, the first 2024 concert announced for the 5,000-seat venue outside of Summerfest at Maier Festival Park. (Fast-rising regional Mexican star Ivan Cornejo will play that venue during the festival, on July 6.) Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at the box office (200 N. Harbor Drive) and bmopavilion.com. Prices have yet to be announced.
Nelson last played the Milwaukee area at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy last summer for his Outlaw Music Festival, which included the Avett Brothers for some dates (although not at Alpine).
But the Avett Brothers, who did share a bill with Nelson for the 2019 edition of the Outlaw festival at Summerfest (and played the festival's BMO Pavilion last June) have lined up their own area show for 2024. They will bring their summer tour to Alpine Valley Aug. 18 with special guest (and fellow Outlaw tourmates) Trampled By Turtles.
It will be a busy August at Alpine. Jason Aldean will play the amphitheater the day before the Avett Brothers show, while Hootie & the Blowfish will be at the venue on Aug. 10. Noah Kahan also has announced a summer Alpine show for July.
Tickets for the Avett Brothers show also go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, at livenation.com, with prices to be announced.
