With the close of the holiday season, life seems to dim, but the local music scene is heating up for a foot-stomping, head-nodding journey through winter’s gloom.

We’re blessed with venues that vary from vast arenas to cozy arts centers, and the shows booked through spring will appeal to just about every music lover, with rock, blues, disco and '80s hits on the menu.

Stay warm through the next few months with our top 10 concert recommendations.

Friday, Jan. 26, 7:30 p.m.: Rhode Island’s own James Montgomery Blues Band will light up the Courthouse Center for the Arts in South Kingstown (courthousearts.org) with a unique sound that reflects classic blues influences from Detroit to the Delta. Tickets start at $28.

Saturday, Feb. 17, 8 p.m.: Croce Plays Croce 50th Anniversary Tour, Vets Auditorium (thevetsri.com), Providence. Singer-songwriter A.J. Croce celebrates two of his father, Jim Croce’s, legendary albums with his renditions of songs such as “Operator” and “Time in a Bottle,” accompanied by a biographical multimedia presentation. Tickets range from $35 to $75.

Wednesday, Feb. 21, 7:30 p.m.: Journey and Toto, Amica Mutual Pavilion (amicamutualpavilion.com), Providence. Celebrate Journey’s 50th Anniversary Freedom Tour and sing along to '80s hits such as “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Faithfully” and “Any Way You Want It.” Tickets start at $75.

Tuesday, March 12: The Moody Blues’ John Lodge, The Strand (thestrandri.com), Providence. Lodge reignites some of the iconic rock band’s classic hits, such as “Isn’t Life Strange” and “I’m Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band),” then performs the album “Days of Future Passed” in its entirety. Tickets start at $50.

Friday, March 22, 7:30 p.m.: Ladies Love R&B with Ashanti, 112, Ginuwine, Next, and Lloyd, Amica Mutual Pavilion (amicamutualpavilion.com), Providence. Warm up with sounds from the 1990s and 2000s before enjoying Ashanti’s lyric soprano as the show’s headliner. Tickets start at $89.

Saturday, March 23, 7 p.m.: Indigo Girls, Providence Performing Arts Center (ppacri.org), Providence. The only duo with top 40 hits in the 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s, the pair will be backed by the RI Philharmonic Orchestra for powerful arrangements of their folk, rock, pop and classical sounds. Tickets start at $34.50.

Saturday, April 6, 8 p.m.: Adam Ant with The English Beat, Foxwoods (foxwoods.com), Ledyard, Connecticut. Travel back to the '80s for the Antmusic 2024 show, featuring such songs as “Goody Two Shoes,” “Stand and Deliver” and “Prince Charming.” Tickets are $66 and up.

Saturday, April 13, 8 p.m.: Smokey Robinson “Soulfully Yours,” Providence Performing Arts Center (ppacri.org). Robinson is old-school Motown, and he promises to deliver such hits as “Tears of a Clown,” “I Second That Emotion” and “The Tracks of My Tears,” along with “If We Don’t Have Each Other” from his 2023 album "Gasms." Tickets are $57.50 and up.

Friday, April 19, 8 p.m.: Dustbowl Revival, Greenwich Odeum (greenwichodeum.com), East Greenwich. If you think you know what folk music sounds like, think again. This genre-bending American roots band offers “joyful, booty-shaking soul” and “cut-to-heart folk-rock ballads.” Tickets are $28.

Friday May 17, 8 p.m.: Kansas, Providence Performing Arts Center (ppacri.org). These classic rockers are on their 50th anniversary tour with two original and one longtime member in their lineup. They’ll bring the bass for iconic tunes like “Dust in the Wind,” “Carry On Wayward Son” and “Refugee.” Tickets range from $45 to $125.
