Woman Catfished And Scammed By Person Posing As Kevin Gates

A woman claiming to be the “No. 1 fan” of Kevin Gates recently discovered she was “catfished” and scammed out of thousands of dollars by a person online posing as the rapper.

On Wednesday (Jan. 24), a woman named Jerleesa appeared on the latest episode of online show Catfished, during which she claimed to be romantically involved with Gates, whom she says she never met personally. According to Jerleesa, she was contacted by a person she presumed to be Gates after purchasing tickets for a meet-and-greet the Louisiana native was holding in Birmingham, Al.

The “catfish” victim said she has been corresponding with Gates for over a year, and that the rapper had been showering her with compliments and promises that the two would be together as a couple.

During their conversations, which occurred through messages online, the person posing as Gates told Jerleesa they were in need of her financial assistance in order to stay our of prison. Jerleesa said she obliged the request, sending thousands of dollars to the scammer over the course of a year.

“I’ve probably given him maybe $5,000-$6,000,” she said while on the show.

Unfortunately, with the help of the Catfished team, Jerleesa would be brought to the realization that she’d been duped and that her relationship with Gates was a fallacy.

“It sucks,” she said in reaction to the news. “But, I figured after a while that’s what it was.” According to Catfished‘s investigation, the person pretending to be Kevin Gates resides in the Philadelphia area, but their gender was unable to be confirmed
