'X-Files' fan favorite returns from the dead ... kinda
The Lone Gunmen are back … well, kinda. Richard Langly, who was one of the three conspiracy theorists/hackers who assisted Mulder throughout the years, appeared on Wednesday’s X-Files. The Lone Gunmen had died saving the world from bio-terrorists back in Season 9. So it was surprising when Langly contacted Mulder on his phone.
Although Langly wasn’t really alive, he helped create a digital world where his mind survived. “Mulder, it’s like I designed heaven,” Langly said while communicating through Mulder’s phone, “I eat hot dogs and donuts all day long. No one here ever dies of cancer or Alzheimer’s. And the Ramones are here, and they don’t fight!” Unfortunately, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for Langley, who wanted Mulder and Scully to shutdown the simulation. Langly told them, “We’re living a lie here. It’s a work camp. We’re digital slaves. They take our uploaded minds to develop science that only the elite will use to leave your world.”
So Mulder and Scully snuck into a government building, shut down the servers, and ended the program. But this is The X-Files, so, of course, it wasn’t going to end so easily. Langly reappeared on Mulder’s phone in a panic, telling them, “They know that we know! Destroy the backup! Mulder, I’m afraid,” before disappearing. We’ll just have to wait to find out if Mulder and Scully can end the simulation for good.
The X-Files airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox. Watch clips and full episodes of The X-Files for free on Yahoo View.
