Ye Audience Chants “F**k Adidas” During China Listening Event
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, encouraged fans to diss one of his past partners during a recent listening event. Video footage from a listening event features the crowd chanting “f**k Adidas,” as the Chicago rapper raises his middle finger. The Vultures 2 preview took place on Sunday (Sept. 15) in Hainan, China, per The Express Tribune.
“I hope that was okay,” elaborated the 47-year-old after flipping the bird. This is not the first instance where the Grammy-winning musician encouraged his fans to diss the sportswear brand.
According to HipHopDX, in August, Ye and Ty Dolla $ign performed at the Goyang Stadium in Seoul, South Korea, as part of the Vultures 2 listening event series. During the affair, Kanye started a “f**k Adidas” chant, involving the audience.
The “Jesus Walks” rhymer’s partnership with Adidas officially ended in October 2022. The brand cut ties with Ye after his repeated pattern of making controversial remarks including anti-semitic rhetoric.
“Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” stated the brand in a press release issued at the time. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”
According to Billboard, after Adidas announced the decision to part ways with Ye, they sued Kanye’s Yeezy brand demanding it return $75 million that had allegedly been deposited in its accounts. The brand allegedly refused. However, in May 2023, attorneys for Adidas and Yeezy said they had reached an agreement to move it to a private arbitration case.
In February of this year, Ye called out the brand for for selling “fake Yeezys,” as well as using his name on unapproved colorways and unfairly suing him over business differences. In August, Adidas won a case claiming the company was aware of Ye’s offensive behavior yet did not make shareholders aware of violating securities laws. Per Billboard, Judge Karin Immergut ruled that she did not condone Ye’s “erratic, inappropriate, and antisemitic” behavior, calling it “troubling” that it had happened at Adidas, but that it did not rise to the level of misleading investors.
