This year's Miss Door County made local history at the Miss Wisconsin pageant
OSHKOSH – Reigning Miss Door County Kylee Duessler made a little history this past weekend when she became the first contestant representing the Peninsula to place in the Top 5 of the Miss Wisconsin scholarship competition.
Duessler was named fourth runner-up to new Miss Wisconsin Mandi Genord of Beaver Dam in the 2024 pageant Saturday in Oshkosh, marking the first time in the Miss Door County Scholarship Organization program's 27-year history that its current titleholder was named one of the runners-up in the state contest.
The Sturgeon Bay resident graduated this past spring from Sevastopol High School and plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she will major in biomedical engineering. As fourth runner-up, she earned a $1,000 scholarship to go with the $2,675 in scholarships she won in the Door County pageant.
For the talent part of the Miss Wisconsin contest, Duessler played trumpet to the song "Skyfall" that Adele recorded for the James Bond movie of the same name. She played the trumpet solo number "Andante et Allegro" for her talent in the Door County pageant.
Duessler will continue to promote her community service initiative, “Trust Your Training: Conquering the Fear of Failure in Elementary and Middle School Students."
As the new Miss Wisconsin, Genord will go on to represent the state in the 2025 Miss America pageant.
Also competing in Oshkosh was Miss Door County's Teen 2024 Emily Bley, like Duessler a Sevastopol graduate this past spring. The Miss Wisconsin Teen 2024 title was won by Ella Bey of Pewaukee.
The 2025 Miss Door County and Miss Door County's Teen pageant is scheduled to take place Feb. 1 at Southern Door Community Auditorium in Brussels. For applications to take part or more information, visit missdoorcounty.org.
