This year's Oscar nominees share their favorite movie moments of 2017
Many of this year’s Oscar nominees have spent the last six or months or so talking endlessly about their films at one press junket or awards event after the other. So on the red carpet at the 2018 Academy Awards, we asked a handful of nominees for their favorite moments from other movies (watch above).
“I like the final image of Shape of Water,” said Edgar Wright, whose musically driven heist film Baby Driver was up for three technical awards. “I’m not giving too much away because it’s on the poster. But I love when they’re underwater and her shoe falls off. That’s like a classic shot.”
Wright’s friend Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick) also favored the Guillermo del Toro-directed sci-fi fairy-tale. “The black-and-white dance sequence from Shape of Water, I really, really loved that moment,” the nominee for Best Original screenplay said. “It’s weird and quirky and funny and emotional and gorgeous.”
Nanjiani’s cowriter-wife Emily V. Gordon opted for a moment from Paul Thomas Anderson’s acclaimed period piece. “The omelette scene from Phantom Thread,” she said. “That scene got me. Whew!”
Beanie Feldstein, co-star of the Best Picture-nominated dramedy Lady Bird, had two: “[Timothée Chalamet’s] performance in Call Me by Your Name is just remarkable, that ending shot,” she said. “Or Bradley Whitford in Get Out. There’s a moment where he jumps up and down when they first arrive at the house. That was like the spookiest, craziest, most thrilling moment I’ve ever seen.”
