Yellowstone Ratchets Up the Tension in First-Look Photos From Season 5B
Well, you couldn’t have expected anybody to be smiling in a photo from Yellowstone, now could ya? Ahead of the Paramount Network hit’s Sunday, Nov. 10, return with the long-awaited back half of Season 5 — which may or may not serve as the series’ sendoff — five first-look pics were dropped Thursday. And with just a casual glance, you can tell that the tension’s so thick, you can cut it with a knife.
Yellowstone Season 5B: Everything We Know So Far
It’s understandable, too, considering the events of the Season 5A finale (recapped here). You’ll recall that Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton was conspiring with daddy John (the now-MIA Kevin Costner) to take black sheep Jamie (Wes Bentley) to the train station, and at the same time, Jamie was scheming with girlfriend Sarah (Dawn Olivieri) to arrange for a fatal accident to befall the relatives who want to cut his branch from the family tree.

Given the news that broke earlier this week that Reilly and Cole Hauser, who plays rough-hewn husband Rip Wheeler, are in talks to keep Yellowstone going into Season 6, it’s a safe bet that Jamie’s plot is foiled, at least where Beth is concerned. Bentley may have inadvertently predicted a grim fate for his own character when he spoke with TVLine back in February of 2023. “It’s sort of like that quote George [R.R.] Martin gave about Game of Thrones,” he said. “‘If you think this has a happy ending, you’re not paying attention.’”
Hit the comments with your best guess as to who doesn’t survive Yellowstone Season 5B after you check out the new images below.
The Newlyweds
What do Rip and Beth see when they gaze off into the distance? If the past is any predictor of the future, a life full of dustups and throwdowns.
Political Animal
Having grown up on the Yellowstone, Jamie knows what happens when ya mess with a bull. Yet he’s endeavoring to remove his vengeful father from the governor’s seat, anyway.
Blueprint for Success?
Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) have plans galore. The question is, will treacherous Angela allow them to see those plans through to fruition?
Family Matters
Keeping in mind what they’ve already endured, we can’t blame Monica (Kelsey Asbille), Tate (Brecken Merrill) and Kayce (Luke Grimes) for wearing expressions that ask, “What fresh hell is this?”
Wake-Up Call
If we had to guess — and we do — we’d wager that that’s young Carter that Rip is rousing with unusual-for-him gentleness.
