‘Yellowstone’ Sequel Series Makes Major Casting Announcement
Yellowstone producers have revealed key details, including a major casting announcement, about their forthcoming sequel series.
After Yellowstone’s final season bows on Paramount+ in November, the series will spin out into a second prequel series following 1923, set to take place in 1944; and a sequel which will continue the arc of some returning Yellowstone characters while introducing new soon-to-be fan favorites.
On Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the sequel series’ title and star. Dubbed The Madison, Yellowstone’s sequel series will star legendary actress Michelle Pfeiffer. She will also executive produce opposite franchise mastermind Taylor Sheridan.
“The Madison is described as a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana," the outlet states.
“Michelle Pfeiffer is a remarkable talent who imbues every role with emotional depth, authenticity, and grace,” said Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global. “She is the perfect anchor to the newest chapter of the Yellowstone universe, The Madison, from the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan.”
Pfeiffer joins an elite rank of Hollywood actors who have joined up for Sheridan’s Yellowstone-verse. Kevin Costner infamously left the series he helped to establish after contractual disputes and scheduling conflicts with his directorial project, Horizon: An American Saga. Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford also star in 1923.
Matthew McConaughey was rumored to take on a leading role in The Madison, but ultimately a deal was never struck. No announcement has been made regarding which, if any, of Yellowstone’s present cast members will make their way into The Madison.
