Yes Chef, It's Time To Catch up With the Cast of "The Bear'

The time seemed right to say, "Yes, Chef" and catch up with The Bear cast, given that the comedy was recently nominated for 23 Emmys — making it the most-nominated comedy show in a single year ever — which follows the 2023 Emmys, where it won 10 out of its 13 total nominations. That's some fine cooking!

The Bear follows Chicago chef Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) after he returns home to run his family's sandwich shop. But when his kitchen crew turns out to be difficult to work with, Berzatto must figure out how to help them, the business and himself.

The show airs on FX on Hulu, and just concluded it's third season.

CHARACTER PLAYED: Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto

BORN: February 17, 1991 in Brooklyn, New York.

BEST KNOWN FOR: Shameless (2011 to 2021), Movie 43 (2013), Viena and the Fantomes (2020),  The Rental (2020) and The Iron Claw (2023).

PERSONAL: White is married to Addison Timlin, and they have two children together. However, the two have filed for divorce.

THOUGHTS ON THE BEAR: "I knew immediately how much I cared for Carmy and how much my heart really hurt for Carmy, and I don’t think I knew exactly why yet. In retrospect, it’s because I saw this lonely man whose identity was so wrapped up in this thing, and if he didn’t get it, he really felt like he was going to die. That was something accessible to me. I’m older now, and my life’s gotten bigger and better. But there was a time as an actor, a young actor, that I felt very wrapped up in my profession. If I wasn’t succeeding, or I wasn’t getting everything I wanted, it was like the end of the world. That’s a sad existence, if you can’t find joy outside of your profession. That clicked with me early on and helped me get into it."

FUN FACT: White went to cooking school and trained at the Michelin star-rated restaurant Pasjoli for The Bear.

PERSONAL: Edebiri has a bachelor's degree from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

THOUGHTS ON THE BEAR: Edebiri recently just directed her first episode of the show, saying, "I had a total blast and I learned so much from it. I love our cast but being able to collaborate with them from a different vantage point gave me so much more appreciation for them, but also appreciation for the sheer amount of effort it takes to make television. It really is such a powerful and beautiful machine."

FUN FACT: Edebiri was 27 years old during the show's first season.

Liza Colón-Zayas

CHARACTER PLAYED: Tina Marrero

THOUGHTS ON THE BEAR: When asked what her favorite part of her character was, Colón-Zayas said, "Tina’s never been spoon-fed to the audience. I appreciate that. She was a mystery, even to me sometimes, but I never judged her. For me, it was important to always find the humanity in her, and trust in her journey."

FUN FACT: Colón-Zayas was nominated for an Emmy for her work in the show.

Ebon Moss-Bachrach: The Bear cast

CHARACTER PLAYED: Richard 'Richie' Jerimovich

BORN: March 19, 1977 in New York, New York.

BEST KNOWN FOR: John Adams (2008), Girls (2014 to 2017), We'll Never Have Paris (2014), The Last Ship (2014 to 2015), The Punisher (2017), NOS4A2 (2019 t0 2020) and No Hard Feelings (2023).

PERSONAL: Moss-Bachrach has been married to Yelena Yemchuck since 2010. They have two children together.

THOUGHTS ON THE BEAR: “It was one of those rare scripts where I read it and within a few pages, especially this character, it just felt so vital and alive. A lot of the time I find myself like having to create a character; like the script is kind of open-ended, and you sort of have to figure things out and build and create a lot. And this one, he [Richard] just felt really fully formed. And I just had a strong connection. I also felt like I knew people like this. I’ve run into folks like this a lot, and spent some time and loved dearly, some Richie kind of characters throughout my life.”

FUN FACT: Richie refers to a lot of science-fiction works during season one of the show, indicating the character is a sci-fi fan.

Lionel Boyce

BEST KNOWN FOR: Loiter Squad (2012 t0 2014), The Jellies! (2017 to 2019) and Hap and Leonard (2018).

PERSONAL: Boyce is also a very well know writer and producer.

THOUGHTS ON THE BEAR: Marcus (Boyce) and Sydney's (Edebiri) chemistry has been a hot topic from the start of the show, with Boyce saying "I think they’re friends. They started as friends and then it’s like things get in close proximity. I think that’s something that happens with people and that’s just a human thing where you’re, like, 'I have chemistry with this person. Are we friends? Are we not friends?' It’s a weird thing, but they found a way to navigate through it."

FUN FACT: Boyce was 31 during the show's first season.

PERSONAL: Elliott has been married to Bill Kennedy since 2016. They have two children together.

THOUGHTS ON THE BEAR: "It’s just like real life. A lot of people find comedy in the darkness and the stress. It’s so relatable in that way."
