Jennifer Lopez is no stranger to performing for packed stadiums, but at tonight’s high-energy Super Bowl halftime show, her performance had an element of novelty: It was a family affair. Lopez was joined on stage at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium by her 11-year-old daughter Emme, who stole the show when she emerged from a pod to perform with Lopez, Shakira, and a chorus of girls.

“She will be performing on stage as the symbol of the American dream,” sources told Page Six of Emme’s role. In the exuberant show, Lopez and Shakira sang medleys of fan-favorite hits while celebrating Miami, Latinx culture, and girl power.

While Lopez and Emme were tearing it up onstage, the rest of the family cheered them on from the stands. Lopez’s fiancé, retired baseball legend Alex Rodriguez, brought Emme’s twin Max, along with his two daughters, 11-year-old Ella and 15-year-old Natasha.

“You know Alex,” Lopez joked in a joint interview with Shakira on Good Morning America earlier this week. “He’ll be as close as he can get to that stage!”

As for the creative direction of the show, Shakira was passionate about taking viewers on a cultural journey. "I want [the audience] to feel joyful … that they just went to a great all-inclusive party, a party that integrates cultures and diversity," she said during the GMA interview. "I feel truly honored to be representing so many people out there. Women, Latinas, and people of any ages. I think that J.Lo and I are here redefining paradigms about age, about race, about background. It doesn’t really matter where you’re from, how old you are … what matters is what you have to say. And we’re here, and we have a lot of stuff to say."

Ahead of the show, Rodriguez shared his pride on Instagram, writing of his fiancée, “Jen, it doesn’t take a trophy, medal, or plaque to identify a true champion. To millions of young women who have watched you and have been inspired and empowered to do amazing things in their lives, you are a champion." Safe to say that Emme is among those young women looking up to J.Lo.
