Zack Snyder to Direct Zombie Thriller ‘Army of the Dead’ for Netflix
Director Zack Snyder returns to the zombie genre as the filmmaker will direct “Army of the Dead” for Netflix, an insider with knowledge of the project told TheWrap on Tuesday.
The story is by Zack Snyder, the screenplay is by Joby Harold. Snyder will produce with his partner and wife, Deborah Snyder, via their newly rebranded production shingle, Stone Quarry. Wesley Coller is also producing.
Following a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted. “Army of the Dead” marks Snyder’s return to the zombie genre, after previously making his directorial debut with “Dawn of the Dead” for Universal Pictures.

Principal photography is set to begin later this year.
Netflix took the project over from Warner Bros., where it was first set up in 2007.
This is the first project for the filmmaker after leaving the production of 2017’s “Justice League” due to a family tragedy. As TheWrap first reported, “Justice League” had a lot of enemies: a looming corporate merger, a family tragedy, an internal clash between light and dark themes. But its greatest enemy was time.
Snyder is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer.
The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.
