Live Like A Legend: Grateful Dead Drummer Bill Kreutzmann's Mendocino Home Hits Market For $4 Million

Calling all Deadheads with deep pockets! You can snatch a piece of Grateful Dead history for a cool $4 million.

You can buy the seaside home in Mendocino, California, once owned by Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann. Imagine kicking back in the same crib where Kreutzmann himself once chilled. Maybe you'll catch some good vibes while lounging on one of the many outdoor terraces or hear whispers of "Ripple" and "China Cat Sunflower" echoing through the halls.

Don't Miss:

Kreutzmann was born in Palo Alto, California, and played with the Grateful Dead for the band's entire 30-year run. He still performs with offshoots of the Dead, including Dead & Company's current 30-show residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

The home's current owner, Brian Temple, who bought the property from Kreutzmann in the early 2000s, described the property as "the most beautiful spot" he knows.

"When my parents bought the home, it was a two-bedroom, one-bath coastal hangout," Temple told the Robb Report. "While the home had plenty of charm and intrigue, my dad saw the future potential for the site. There was a vacant lot next door, which my parents promptly purchased, and over 10 years, they worked on their dream project. Ultimately, they remodeled and expanded the original home, built a second home next door, and connected the two via a skybridge."

The two homes, which sit on five adjoining acres, have separate addresses but are being listed together. Combined, they are about 6,200 square feet and have four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and two bonus rooms. Each house has a staircase, second-story living area, chef's kitchen, living and dining areas, and stunning ocean views from multiple outdoor terraces.

The property, listed by Jim Eldridge of Mendo Sotheby's International Realty, has been on and off the market for several years. In keeping with trends in the Mendocino housing market, which has dropped 5% over the last year, the price of Kreutzmann's former home has been cut over the years it's been listed.

"It's certainly a vacation home," Eldridge told Realtor.com in 2019. "It's about three hours from Silicon Valley. It tends to be a vacation destination."
