Moby Dick Brewing Co opens its event space. Here's its future plans for the venue.

NEW BEDFORD ā€” Moby Dick Brewing Company has recently expanded its business with the opening of its new event space called The Launch.

This new addition to the brewery is designed with the same feel as their dining room, set to host private events such as showers, reunions, corporate gatherings and meetings, accommodating up to 49 people.

Since opening in 2017, Moby Dick Brewing Company has become quite popular but has not been able to accommodate requests to rent out the restaurant for events.

"We've had many requests to rent out the restaurant for events, and we've been saying no forever," said David Slutz, president of Moby Dick Brewing Company Inc. "The ability to say yes, will make everybody smile."

The new event space is located in the J.H Sherman Building, which was built in 1887 and was originally a plumbing business before transforming into the beloved local restaurant, Lorraine's, in 1927. The building has been vacant for several years before being purchased by Moby Dick Brewing Company in 2021.

"Weā€™ve had great feedback from the first few events," said Michael Warren, General Manager of Moby Dick Brewing Company. "We are so happy to finally be able to host private events and plan some great things like our upcoming Brewerā€™s Dinner on April 9th."

Warren also opened the space on St. Patrickā€™s Day and the half marathon.

"Overall, it will allow us to do a lot more than simply be a brewery and restaurant. We plan to constantly be planning fun events and in the summer, open its doors for a great hangout space for people to come in, grab a beer and play some games," he said.
