Xpeng signs deal with Australian distributor

In This Article:

Xpeng said this week it had signed an agreement with Australian distributor TrueEV, as the Chinese battery electric vehicle (BEV) startup continued its efforts to expand its sales beyond the mainland.

The deal followed a similar agreement signed last month with Malaysiaā€™s Sime Darby group to distribute its vehicles in Hong Kong with sales scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2024.

Guangzhou based Xpeng said it had entered into an exclusive partnership with Australiaā€™s specialist EV distributor and retailer TrueEV, with plans to begin marketing the G6 SUV in the fourth quarter of 2024. In China, G6 prices start RMB200,000 (US$27,700).

The two companies would also work together to roll out Xpengā€™s BEV charging infrastructure.

The automakerā€™s head of international markets, Alex Tang, said in a statement: ā€œThe partnership with TrueEV is a significant step forward in our global expansion strategy. Our vision, values and unwavering commitment to superior quality align perfectly with TrueEVā€™s experience and local insight, making this a natural and forward thinking next step in our expansion plan."

TrueEV CEO Jason Clarke said: ā€œXpeng is the highest quality intelligent EV that we could identify after an exhaustive search. We are confident that Xpeng product range and design features are ideally suited to the Australian market."

Xpeng CEO and co founder He Xiaopeng said recently Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia were next on its list of targeted overseas markets.

Earlier this year, the company signed sales agreements with distributors in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Azerbaijan, Jordan and Lebanon.
