A Feast for the Eyes, from Elizabeth Restaurant in Chicago
The food that Iliana Regan makes at Elizabeth Restaurant in Chicago is almost too beautiful to eat. After all, Regan is a both a modernist chef and an expert forager who uses flowers and herbs to great effect. But it’s not the pretty plating that has critics swooning: it’s the food. Ryan Sutton, writing for Bloomberg, called Elizabeth “America’s next great restaurant.” Eater restaurant editor Bill Addison called Regan “a chef-savant unlike any other in the U.S.”
Elizabeth has been open for two years, features a tasting-course menu, and like other restaurants in Chicago, sells tickets rather than offers reservations. Regan has described the food she makes as “New Gatherer” cuisine. For a closer look, enjoy this taste from one of America’s most exciting young chefs.
