Cake of the Day: Strawberry Kiss Cake

Brooks Walker is a father, husband, baker, writer, and photographer living in Sacramento, California. He worked for many years in the hospitality industry, and he also delved into the commercial voice-over world, but now, he’s busting out beautiful cakes on his food blog, The Cakewalker.
Walker infuses this very pink cake with strawberries from head to toe. “Fresh berries yield superb flavor and color to the baking,” he writes. “Choose ones that are fragrant and ripe and red.”
He starts by mixing strawberry purée into the cake batter. After baking three layers, he brushes each with strawberry-infused simple syrup and blankets them all in Swiss meringue buttercream (dyed pink with — what else? — strawberries). Pearlized sprinkles make the top almost sparkle.
Easter dessert? Done.
