Chinese New Year 2014: Year of the Horse Predictions…for Food

It’s the first day of the Chinese new year, which means last night, Chinese people all over the world were noshing on good-luck dumplings. But not before reading up on what this year will bring, from experts like Foon Chik, of the Feng Shui Society. “Since the Horse is a fiery creature, watch out for passions running high,” she wrote in her 2014 horoscope. Too late!
Here’s how we’ve interpreted Chik’s predictions as they apply to food, the only thing in the world we care about.
Chik says: “Since 2014 is the Wood Horse, the Wood element is about reaching onwards and upwards, planning ahead.”
We say: Since people have been restoring our faith in, well, people lately, we think you’ve got this. Maybe you “reach onwards and upwards” by bringing to life that awesome idea you came up with last year? Or you could kickstart that new health routine. (No, but like…really do it.)
Chik says: “Be somewhat circumspect when it comes to formulating your blueprints for the year ahead. Whilst the Wood element may influence you to move forwards, the Fire in the Horse, which sits beneath the Wood, can burn up some of your designs, if you are not careful.”
We say: Ambition is great. So is being realistic.
Chik says: “Watch out for extremes of emotion.”
We say: Okay, okay! We’ll tone it down.
Chik says: “You can choose how to act on your feelings, be the rider who is in control of the Horse.”
We say: Example: When you’re sad, find ways to combat it.
Chik says: “Horses are beautiful and popular creatures, and if you borrow some of the pizazz of the Horse you will update your wardrobe with a touch of glamour.”
We say: Got you covered.
Chik says: “Disturbing the south sector of your home with major building works can make the Horse buck and throw you off his back.”
We say: Move those bins to the north side.
