Remember Chicken Makes the Ice Cream Taste Better, the anthology of short stories about food written by middle school students at P.S. 7? One of the groups behind it, Edible Schoolyard NYC, is holding a spring benefit on April 13 to celebrate efforts like those, plus its main objective: building garden and kitchen “classrooms” in needy communities.

One such classroom is located at P.S. 7, in Harlem, where vegetable-filled planters reside in the school’s courtyard and a rooftop greenhouse is in the works. Every month, students take at least one gardening and kitchen skills class. It’s no wonder, then, that Edible Schoolyard NYC has earned a remarkable celebrity chef following, which explains why the two dozen–strong roster of chefs cooking for the benefit’s dinner is so star-studded.

Among the notable names: Tom Colicchio, Marcus Samuelsson, April Bloomfield, Danny Bowien, and the evening’s culinary chair, David Chang. Menus are still under wraps, but we have no doubt the dinner will be a spectacle. The benefit’s committee certainly will help in that department, too: Stars like Jake Gyllenhaal, John Leguizamo, Questlove, and Martha Stewart are members. Model Karlie Kloss is one of the co-chairs.

So how do you snag a table? It’s pricey—the least expensive ticket is a whopping $1,500—but at least you can rest easy that it’s going to a good cause.
