Gift Guide 2014: Nom Nom Paleo on Meat Thermometers, Pressure Cookers, and, of Course, Her Cookbook
In 2010, San Francisco-based hospital pharmacist Michelle Tam skeptically followed her husband into the Paleo world. As soon as her “grain brain” cleared, she became a believer—so much so that she launched a blog called Nom Nom Paleo and quickly gained a following. Tam also has a New York Times bestselling book (the editors there proclaimed her the “Martha Stewart of Paleo”), a Webby Award-winning iPad app, and, of course, a mini-Michelle action figure. Below, she shares her holiday gift picks with us.

What are your top 5 food-related gift ideas for the holidays?
1. Instant Pot 7-in-1 cooker. The electric pressure cooker function is my favorite. This pot is really a game-changer because it allows busy cooks to make stews and braises in no time. Photo: Amazon
2. Kuhn Rikon julienne peeler, great for making “noodles” out of fresh vegetables. Photo: Sur La Table
3. Thermapen instant-read digital meat thermometer. Never over- or under-cook your expensive proteins again! Photo: Amazon
4. Our cookbook, Nom Nom Paleo: Food For Humans. It’s got my best recipes, along with 1,000 step-by-step photos, fun cartoons, and jokes. Photo: Amazon
5. Aeropress coffee maker, so you can make perfect coffee while on the go. Photo: Amazon
What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?
Not to be a total cheeseball, but I cherish anything my kids make for me.
What’s the best gift you’ve ever given?
The gift of life to my children. I’m only kind of kidding. They owe me big time.

What are your plans for the holidays?
We’re heading to Orlando to spend the week waiting in never-ending lines at various amusement parks. My kids both have December birthdays, and their wish lists were all about roller coasters.
What will be on your holiday dinner table this year?
Something at the concession stands at Disney World.
What’s a great last-minute gift?
You can never go wrong with a collection of high-end finishing salts. I love the salt blends from Jacobsen Salt Co. in Portland—especially the Smoked Ghost Chili Pepper.
