Go Ahead, Eat This Lipstick
On average, a woman ingests about 7 pounds of lipstick in her lifetime. That statistic has been around for a couple years, we know. What hasn’t been around? The host of organic, often food-based lipsticks that are actually fashionable and can be found in stores beyond that hippie-dippie incense, tinctures, and “herbal teas” shop. Even Sephora’s in the game these days.
Here are our favorite natural beauty brands producing lip colors free from synthetic chemicals, fake fragrances, and artificial preservatives. The list includes a range of colors that suit many skin tones, and formulas that, more often than not, taste pretty darn good. So go on, eat to your heart’s content. (Although, gross. Don’t do that. But you know what we mean: no guilt over licked lips.)
Mango butter is the key to this ultra-moisturizing formula, and the dusty pink color is all-the-time flattering. (We’re wearing it as we type right now.) Korres Mango Butter Lipstick in “Natural Pink,” $18
Our favorite Brooklyn boutiques ALL stock this organic beauty brand. No joke. And the toned-down coral red of the limited-edition “Perfect Day” color is, well, perfect. Ilia Lipstick in “Perfect Day,” $24
When we tapped the beauty editors at Lucky magazine for natural lipstick suggestions, Bite was the winning brand across the board. Juice Beauty joined forces with vegan actress Alicia Silverstone to create this signature color with passion fruit, açai, and goji berries. Juice Beauty Purely Kissable Lip Color, $16
The ingredient breakdown of this goth-cool lippy: 70% certified organic and 30% natural mineral pigments and vitamins. Vapour Organic Beauty Siren Lipstick in “Magnetic,” $22
As its brand name suggests, this baby’s color comes from fruit! Its ingredient list might contain “cherry” or “plum”—the real deal. And it’s all-natural, vegetarian and gluten-free, to boot. 100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Lip Creamstick in “Perfect Naked Berry,” $15
