Cannelle et Vanille blogger Aran Goyoaga was born in France. She spent most of her childhood in her grandparents’ pastry shop, which smelled of warm milk, cinnamon, and vanilla. The shop was called—you guessed it!—Canelle et Vanille.
Now living in Seattle, Goyoaga develops all gluten-free recipes for her website as well as a book, Small Plates and Sweet Treats, published two years ago. We, of course, are most concerned with her cakes.
This bright citrus cake will gently but surely pull anyone out of Winter Bluesdom. Goyoaga starts with almond flour and brown rice flour, then adds Greek yogurt and fresh orange and lemon zest. While that’s in the oven, she makes the glaze, a mixture of powdered sugar, lemon juice, and more lemon zest. The finished product gets a sprinkling of dried rose petals. Who can frown at that?
