John Oliver Goes Off On Pumpkin Spice
There’s no actual pumpkin in Starbucks’s pumpkin spice latte, comedian John Oliver will have you know. The host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight isn’t shy about his disdain for the popular seasonal drink in the above rant, posted online Sunday.
"It’s that special time of year where we voluntarily imbibe pumpkin spice lattes, the coffee that tastes like a candle," Oliver laments. "I don’t mean it tastes like a candle smells. I mean it tastes like a candle tastes. Don’t ask me how I know that."
Americans are obsessed with pumpkin-flavored everything simply because they love autumn, he surmises. If that pertains to you—and you’ve never cooked with pumpkin—there’s no time to learn like the present. But if you’re gung-ho on imbibing pumpkin spice lattes, check in with your favorite barista or make your own at home.
Of course, you could just bake the best pumpkin pie ever and call it a day.
