Savory Breakfast Ideas (for People Who Usually Skip Breakfast)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We know breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So we’ve been told by nearly every mother, gym teacher, and nutritionist since the beginning of time. But sometimes, it’s not that we don’t have time to scarf down a bowl of sugary breakfast cereal—we just don’t want to. Sweet breakfasts are not our thing.
If you’re the same way, here are some scrumptiously savory breakfasts…for folks who like life on the savory side.
1. Spinach Frittata

Beat a few eggs in a bowl and fold in chopped spinach, thinly chopped garlic, and a bit of dill. Pour the mixture into a greasedcast iron pan and bake the whole thing for six to eight minutes at 325 degrees. Voilà! Frittata!
2. Shrimp and Grits
Yes, you can have shrimp for breakfast. Sizzle up some thick-cut bacon and a few shrimps before folding them into a bowl of hot, creamy grits. You’re in heaven.
3. English Muffin Sandwich with Sausage and Egg

No need to go through a drive-thru for one of these. Butter two halves of a toasted muffin before using them to trap a (cooked!) breakfast sausage link split lengthwise and a fried egg.
4. Breakfast Grilled Cheese
Grilled cheese becomes breakfast grilled cheese with the simple addition of an over-easy egg. We favor nutty cheeses like Gruyère and Comté.
5. Crepes with Goat Cheese, Mushrooms and Asparagus

Sautéed mushrooms and asparagus are a match made in heaven in light, buttery crepes slathered with rich goat cheese.
6. Savory Bread Pudding
Got a loaf of bread lying around? Don’t let it go to waste. Try a savory bread pudding like this one using Parmesan cheese, mushrooms, onions, celery, and bell peppers.
7. Breakfast Calzone
Wrap cooked ground sausage, ricotta, onion, shredded Parmesan, and mozzarella in a bit of pizza dough and bake the whole shebang for eight to 12 minutes at 400 degrees. You’ll forget that calzones are associated with any other meal.
8. Cheddar and Chive Scones

Savory scones are a thing! Doctor your standard scone recipe by adding cheddar cheese and chopped chives; just remember to leave out the sugar.
9. Savory Oatmeal
Newsflash: oatmeal doesn’t always have to be sweet. Prepare your oats as you usually do, but finish them with a splash of soy sauce, chopped scallions, and a fried egg.
10. Breakfast Tacos

Bored by plain Jane scrambled eggs? Breakfast tacos are the answer. Whisk together four eggs, two cups of spinach leaves, some chopped tomatoes, onions, and—if you’re a fan of heat—a few slices of jalapeño. Add the mixture to a Country Crock Simply Delicious–greased skillet and stir until it’s cooked thoroughly. The best part: toss the scrambled eggs into a corn tortilla and garnish with cheddar cheese.
You now officially love breakfast.
