If you’ve been watching the news lately, you know that winter weather has been MESSING THINGS UP south of the Mason-Dixon line. A mere two inches of snow shut down some areas, trapping motorists on gridlocked highways for hours and grounding more than 2,200 flights. Kids across the South had to spend the night in the schools. Heck, the National Guard was even called out in Atlanta.

But there was one glimmer of hope in this spectacular mess: people comforted one another with food and drink.

In Birmingham, Alabama, someone offered free hot coffee to folks forced to abandon their vehicles. Chick-fil-A employees braved freezing temperatures to hand out several hundred free sandwiches to folks stranded alongside Highway 280. And in Atlanta, according to CBS, 60 people spent the night at a Hardee’s that had opened its doors.

Thank goodness for do-gooders. (And hot cups of joe.)
