The Best Recipes to Honor Our Oscar Picks
Oscar nominations 2K14 have landed! And while we have feelings about the nominated films, we also have feelings (lots of them!) about food. Here are the dishes we’d pair with our picks for the top categories. (In other words, Oscar Nom Noms.)

Best Picture: “Her”
Spike Jonze’s film is a quiet, neoclassic romance in which most of the characters (the human ones, at least), experience painful solitude. It’s set in the near future, with slick technology shining all around people who, otherwise, look like throwbacks to the 50s. Enter the casserole—a throwback that’s been updated—with one lone fork.

Best Director: Steve McQueen, “12 Years a Slave”
McQueen is intense: his films have had to do with Northern Irish prisoner Bobby Sands’ hunger strike (“Hunger”), sex addiciton (“Shame”), and, now, slavery. He’s also straightforward: just watch him in interviews, there’s no BS. He’s like a bagna cauda, a classic and VERY pungent Piedmontese garlic-anchovy dip that stays with you for days (even if you might not want it to).

Best Actor: Bruce Dern, “Nebraska”
Bruce Dern’s Woody is an aging man who, due to booze and a desperate, impossible dream (to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize), crumbles before our eyes.

Best Actress: Amy Adams, “American Hustle”
Seared duck breast. We don’t think this one needs an explanation.

Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto, “Dallas Buyers Club”
Rayon, a transgender woman, is a saucy minx, all lipstick and high heels. But she’s very fragile, too.

Best Supporting Actress: Jennifer Lawrence, “American Hustle”
She’s a pistol, all right. She packs a punch like a Manhattan cocktail topped with a zingy citrus wheel.
