Top Chef's Kristen Kish Is the New Cherry Bombe Cover Girl
The “New School/Old School”-themed issue of Cherry Bombe, which hits newsstands this week, is a celebration of both the culinary world’s up-and-comers and its icons. Representing the new guard: cover girl and Top Chef season 10 champion Kristen Kish.
Cherry Bombe is a biannual magazine dedicated to celebrating women and food; it was launched last year via a Kickstarter campaign by Yahoo Food Editor-in-Chief Kerry Diamond and graphic designer Claudia Wu. Named one of Adweek’s Hottest Newcomers of 2014, Cherry Bombe is part of a recent boom in indie magazines. The past few years have seen a slew of new titles launch in the food and lifestyle categories, from Lucky Peach to Kinfolk, Gather, and the reborn Domino, despite challenging times for print publications.
In addition to the profile on Kish, who details her post-Top Chef life, the new issue of Cherry Bombe features interviews with The Barefoot Contessa’s Ina Garten; Mimi Sheraton, the first female food critic? of The New York Times; chef Iliana Regan of Chicago’s Elizabeth; chef Tanya Holland of Oakland’s Brown Sugar Kitchen; the sisters behind The New Potato; and the team at Modernist Cuisine in Seattle. A special cookbook section, titled “She’s Bookish,” features the season’s hottest new titles.
"I think it’s a fun issue that stays true to what we’re ?all about: girl power plus food," says Diamond. “Kristen was the perfect cover girl. With her background in fine dining, her success on reality TV, and her personal search for what’s next in her life, she’s a very compelling person with a great story to tell.”
