If you glance at the nutrition label on the back of popular energy drink Red Bull, the amount of sugar within is clearly stated: 27 grams per 8.4 fluid ounces. But Reddit user Gizmosarrow — who preferred the larger 12-ounce can — had trouble visualizing the amount.

“I wanted to see how much 39g of sugar actually was,” the Redditor wrote on the site Monday, admitting in the comments to a “two 12-oz. cans a day” habit. Turns out that the amount of sugar in one can alone translates to a rather startling mound of the sugary stuff.

Here’s what 39 grams of sugar looks like:

“I think I’m done with Red Bull,” the Reddit user wrote. “I only recently started to re-evaluate my sugar intake, and this picture alone is enough to convince me I’ve slowly been killing myself for years.”

The amount of sugar in a Red Bull seems to be a sore subject for the energy drink producer. On its website, there’s a section dedicated to comparing the amount of sugar in its product to that of fruit juice, soda, ice cream, and even bubble tea. Its unspoken message: Red Bull is no worse for you than things you are probably already consuming. Doth protest too much?

Either way, it’s hard to argue with these images. How often do you down energy drinks? Tell us below in the comments.
