Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson shared some scary news on Tuesday night — the actor had cancer removed from his face, he wrote on Instagram, under a picture of his bandaged mug.
“Thank you to Dr. Bennett & his entire team for taking the cancer out of my face. Good luck hiding the stitches tomorrow @modernfamily_makeuphair! #youwannaapieceofme #phantommask #spf75″
While he hasn’t said what kind of cancer he’s dealing with, his hashtags point to skin cancer, which affects roughly one in five Americans over a lifetime.

Tyler Ferguson isn’t the first in his family to face cancer, either. His husband, Justin Mikita, was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma at age 13. Tyler Ferguson has been active in the cancer community, opening up about his husband’s fight at a Stand up to Cancer event in 2014.
If the jokes he’s already cracking about it are any indication, Tyler Ferguson is taking the diagnosis in stride. We’re pulling for you!
